THE legend that is The Stig got behind the wheel of The British Forces Foundation's Lap of Honour car and put it through its paces at the Top Gear test track.

The mystery man in the white helmet was oblivious to the highly prized autographs of 50 British icons that adorn the bodywork, as he threw the car around the corners.

With just over a week to go before the unique vehicle is auctioned by Bonhams, at the world famous Goodwood Festival of Speed on Friday 3rd July to raise money for The BFF, it was a nail-biting experience as The Stig safely crossed the finishing line.

The car has been on a year-long adventure around the country and will be sold with a signed travelling album that fully documents the campaign. The list of signees includes Sir Michael Caine, Sir Jackie Stewart, Rod Stewart, Lewis Hamilton, Kate Moss, Joe Calzaghe, Sir Elton John, David Beckham, Baroness Thatcher, Eric Clapton, Joanna Lumley, Dame Helen Mirren, Gordon Brown, Sir Paul McCartney, Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May.

In the end, the lap time itself was a very respectable 1.42.8 (faster than the Aston Martin DB5 which clocked up 1.46.0).
