GOLFERS revelled in a day
of sport and entertainment at the hugely popular Jim Davidson Classic
in September. Held at the beautiful Gatton Manor Hotel, Golf and
Country Club in Surrey the British Forces Foundation celebrity golf
day was sponsored by ITT Industries Network Systems & Services. Some 31 teams took to the tees for a shotgun start
to this stableford competition. The weather held fine for the majority
of the day as the players - of all standards - made their way around
the18 hole course. At the end of the day two teams finished in joint
first place on 120 points - the Hurtwoord Harriers and the Hurtwood
Academicals. In third place were Clubline Promotions of Gosport. Following a champagne reception guests enjoyed dinner
in a magnificent marquee. The evening included live music, comedy, the
golf prize-giving and The British Forces Foundation auction. Jim told thanked guests for their show of generosity:
"Your support today to the Foundation sends a very clear and positive
message to our Armed Forces - it says you care and support what they
are doing and the sacrifices they are making," he said. "I cannot tell you just how important that message
is but I can assure you it has a dramatic effect. I am therefore very
grateful to you for supporting one of our events and helping to send
that message to our Armed Forces who are, I believe, the best in the
world." The British Forces Foundation would like to thank
all those who supported the event and especially the sponsors, ITT Industries
Network Systems & Services, HSBC, Gatton Manor Hotel, Golf and Country
Club and staunch BFF supporter Brian Tripp of Spectrum Projects Limited. Plans are already underway for next year's event,
which will be held in September. Anyone interested in entering a team
should please contact the BFF office on 020 7436 3007 for more details.
