THE British Forces Foundation's Lap of Honour project was launched in
June by The British Forces Foundation’s Trustee Katherine Jenkins.
The new vehicle – complete with a Union Jack
roof – is now fully engaged in a ten month adventure around the
country getting 50 British icons to autograph one car, and 100 companies
to lend their support.
2009 marks our 10th anniversary year and this project will act as a
focal point to recognise the occasion. The culmination of ten years
of boosting morale will be major celebration to be held in London during
the Autumn of 2009. The BFF is inviting back all those who have entertained
the troops overseas which includes Status Quo, James Blunt and Katherine
Jenkins.
The car, along with two fully signed accompanying albums,
will then be given a high profile send-off by Bonhams. Chairman Robert
Brooks is "delighted" to announce that the fastest growing
auction house in the world will be dropping the hammer on Lap of Honour
at next year's Goodwood Festival of Speed.
The 50 icons represent the British elite in all spheres and the list
already includes Sir Michael Caine, James Blunt, Ricky Hatton, Jonny
Wilkinson, Baroness Boothroyd, John Terry, Dame Kelly Holmes, Frederick
Forsyth and Dame Judi Dench.
A minimum of 100 selected major British brand names
are being asked to donate £1,000 as a pledge of support to the
men and women of the Armed Forces. Their commitment will be acknowledged
throughout the campaign as it spreads across the country and there will
even be a Limited Edition magazine to commemorate the project.
The Lap of Honour project is more than just a fundraising event for
the Charity or a focal point to mark 10 years serving the Armed Forces.
It is a celebration of the British link between companies, eminent icons
and serving personnel. The very act of demonstrating support will send
a clear message of solidarity to those on the frontline, which will
in itself be a significant boost to their morale.
BFF Director, Mark Cann, said: "I am so grateful to the companies
who have already supported this campaign. In so doing, they send a powerful
message of support to the young men and women of our Armed Forces, acknowledging
the sacrifices they make on our behalf. I encourage others to follow
their lead."
